Total Hip Replacement

Total Hip Replacement

Total Hip Replacement (THR) has been shown to be one of the most successful operations offered in all of surgical practice in terms of adding quality of life for patients. The aim of the THR is to get rid of the pain you are experiencing and to allow you to function in a way that means you can do everything that you want to do.

Please take some time to watch this video where I explain the process of having a hip replacement.

I primarily use the Exeter Hip (Styker) replacement as it has some of the best long-term results and allows me to reconstruct your anatomy reliably to achieve an excellent outcome. I always use a ceramic ball and a highly engineered polyethylene socket (cup or liner) as I believe that these give the best results, which is supported by the UK National Joint Registry.

In preparation for a hip replacement, I will use computer software to plan and ‘template’ for the surgery. This allows me to understand the nuances of each hip replacement and have a plan in place for how I will get the best result for each patient.

Occasionally I will use an ‘uncemented’ hip replacement in specific circumstances. When this is the case, I use the Corail/Pinnacle (Dupuy Synthese) system. This also has excellent long-term results.
